The Grand South African Adventure - Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Met on arrival at Cape Town International Airport by professional guide and private transfer to the hotel at The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Afternoon at leisure for shopping at the Waterfront.

The Table Bay Hotel or similar – bed and breakfast basis

Day 2

Today's touring starts with a visit up Table Mountain where the various flora and fauna will be explained. The cableway ticket is not included as the mountain visit is weather permitting. Continue with a City Tour incorporating the Malay Quarter, a walk through the Castle of Good Hope and on to Milnerton for a spectacular view of Table Mountain and the city. En route back to the hotel, visit the Cape Town Diamond Works. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 3

Full Day Cape Highlights tour, travelling via Camps Bay , Hout Bay , and Chapman's Peak to the Cape of Good Hope Reserve. After enjoying stunning views from the highest point, continue towards Simonstown and Muizenberg. After lunch (not included), sample some South African wines at a local wine estate. Travel through the University town of Stellenbosch before returning to the hotel in the early evening. Please note: the drive along Chapman's Peak is subject to the road being open.

Day 4

Depart Cape Town via Du Toit's Kloof Pass to Worcester and traverse the famous Route 62 passing through Montagu to the town of Robertson . Visit the towns of Barrydale and Calitzdorp where the true diversity of landscapes is highlighted through the ever-changing semi-desert areas to your luxurious hotel in Oudtshoorn. The remainder of the afternoon is spent visiting the Cango Caves for a fully guided tour. After returning to the hotel, enjoy a hearty dinner served in the elegant dining room famous for its ostrich fare and fine wines.

Day 5

After breakfast, visit a local Ostrich farm. Time permitting; an optional extra tour of the Crocodile and Cheetah Park is available. Leaving Oudtshoorn, continue over the Outeniqua Pass to George. Enjoy a scenic drive via Dolphin Point to Wilderness and Knysna. Travel to the ‘millionaires' playground' of Plettenberg Bay to the exclusive hotel with it's spectacular views. Enjoy a superb dinner served in the dining room or terrace (weather permitting).

Day 6

After breakfast, depart on a fascinating ocean safari adventure where various whales, dolphins, penguins and seals can be seen in their natural habitat (weather and sea conditions permitting). Between noon and early afternoon, relax and enjoy a meal option of your choice (not included). After lunch, enjoy a hard earned lazy afternoon at the hotel, around the pool or soaking up the sun on the spectacular beach. For those interested in Knysna, your driver/ guide will perform an afternoon excursion to the “oyster capital” where you can stroll along the Knysna waterfront and observe the famous heads from the top of the Eastern Knysna Head. Here, spectacular panoramic views of the lagoon may also be enjoyed. In the early evening, freshen up for an elegantly presented and sumptuous dinner at a local restaurant.

The Plettenberg or similar – dinner, bed and breakfast basis

Day 7

Departing Plettenberg Bay , travel to Nature's Valley and enjoy a short stroll on the beach. Attractions to be visited through the Tsitsikamma Forest area include the Big Tree and the suspension bridge over Storms River mouth where we will take a meal stop (not included). Spectacular scenery awaits you as you cross the bridge over the Storms River where photographic opportunities abound. Depart the Garden Route via the high forests of the Tsitsikamma Mountains to Port Elizabeth . The day's adventure concludes at your beachfront hotel.

The Marine Protea (Loft Wing) or similar – dinner, bed and breakfast basis

Day 8

Morning at leisure. Private transfer to Port Elizabeth Airport for flight to Durban (not included). You will be met on arrival and transferred to your resort hotel near Ballito on Durban 's North coast.

Zimbali Beach Resort or similar – bed and breakfast basis

Day 9

After collection from your hotel, leave the bustling city of Durban . Drive through sugar cane plantations along the Indian Ocean seaboard to Northern Zululand and on to St Lucia , a World Heritage Site. Enjoy a river cruise on the estuary known as ‘birder's paradise'. Here pelicans, fish eagles, hippos and crocodiles may be seen. Proceed to an exclusive private game lodge. After high tea, set out on an afternoon game drive in an open safari vehicle whilst experienced game rangers and trackers are sure to enthrall you with the best game viewing the private reserve has to offer. Return to the Lodge for dinner served in an African Boma (weather permitting).

Thanda Private Game Reserve or similar – dinner, bed and breakfast basis + 2 game viewing activities

Day 10

Participate in a morning game activity or you have the choice to enjoy a hard-earned lazy day relaxing around the pool or indulging in a rejuvenating spa treatment (not included) whilst admiring the majestic Maputaland bush. A nutritious lunch can be enjoyed on either the main deck or in the privacy of your villa. After high tea, set out for an evening game drive where you have the opportunity to mingle with the nocturnal animals inhabiting this unique biosphere. Enjoy a truly African cultural experience and bush dinner (weather permitting) before retiring to your luxurious villa.

Thanda Private Game Reserve or similar – dinner, bed and breakfast basis including 2 game viewing activities

Day 11

Morning game drive in an open safari vehicle within the private reserve. After brunch, depart the lodge and continue to Swaziland entering at Goelela border post. Travel through pineapple plantations and beautiful mountainous scenery and visit a typical Swazi Market and the Swazi candle factory. Late afternoon arrival at your luxury hotel situated in the majestic Ezulwini Valley . Fine dining and an evening of entertainment and excitement awaits you.

Royal Swazi Sun Hotel and Casino or similar – dinner, bed and breakfast basis

Day 12

After a sumptuous breakfast, visit the Ngwenya Glass factory. Leave Swaziland via the capital city of Mbabane and travel to the world famous Kruger National Park . Enter the Park and explore the area en route to the next exclusive private game lodge, arriving in time for high tea. Late afternoon game drive in an open safari vehicle with an experienced ranger and tracker who will endeavour to spoil you with sightings of the ‘Big Five'. Enjoy a safari style bush dinner under the stars (weather permitting).

Sabi Sabi Game Lodge or similar – dinner, bed and breakfast basis + 2 game viewing activities

Day 13

After a morning game drive and breakfast, depart the lodge via Pilgrim's Rest for the Panorama Route featuring: God's Window, the Lisbon Waterfalls, Bourke's Luck Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon . Late afternoon arrival at your elegant country hideaway, where you will enjoy a delectable dinner that can only be described as a ‘culinary masterpiece'.

Lone Creek River Lodge (River Suites) or similar – dinner, bed and breakfast basis

Day 14

After a full English breakfast on your own personal verandah overlooking the Sabie River , our journey to Johannesburg begins with a visit to the Lone Creek Waterfalls and the small town of Sabie . Travel over the historical Long Tom Pass to the towns of Lydenburg, Dullstroom and Witbank. Our tour ends with a drop off at your hotel.

Day 15

Morning tour of Soweto including a fascinating glimpse of bustling neighborhood life, two Nobel Prizewinner previous residences, the Hector Peterson Memorial and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital . Return to your hotel by lunchtime and private transfer to Johannesburg International Airport .
